Fowler, Jr.,&nbsp;<em>Contemporary Sociology<\/em>, Sept. 2014, vol. 43, no. 5, 660-62<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New York Review of Books Review<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My book,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/george-beam.com\/tpwsr.html\"><em>The Problem with Survey Research<\/em><\/a>, is reviewed in the New York Review of Books by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Hacker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andrew Hacker<\/a>: \u201can unabashed. . . . spirited. . . . indictment of surveys. . . . `The flaws of polls,\u2019 he writes, `are so extensive and severe that survey research, as a method for finding out what\u2019s really going on, should be abandoned\u2019 . . . the issues he raises are important. . . . For one thing, `respondents lie\u2019 or `do not have relevant and correct information.\u2019 For another, `question wording skews results.\u2019 Those who sponsor research `disguise, or hide\u2019 its `actual or primary purpose.\u2019 Even location matters. The answers given in classrooms differ from those given in dormitories, even when both are anonymous.
